The June 2025 issue of “La Tecnica Professionale”, the long-standing publication of CIFI (Collegio Ingegneri Ferroviari Italiani, Italian Railway Engineers Association), featured an article entirely dedicated to EasyRailFreight, the digital platform developed by RFI (Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, Italian railway infrastructure manager) for intermodal freight logistics. The article, written by Francesco Lugli, Head of Strategic Marketing, and Alessio Galuppi, Head of Network, Services and Digitalisation Strategies, provides a detailed overview of EasyRailFreight and its main innovative features.
Founded in 1899, CIFI is one of the oldest and most important technical and professional associations in Italy, committed to promoting the study and continuous updating of railway and transport issues.
The article explores the various modules that make up the platform, each designed to meet the specific needs of operators in the sector:
- Service viewer and Terminal Services Registry: these provide a complete and up-to-date overview of the solutions available on the market.
- AT.L.A.S. (Logistics Atlas of Assets and Services): an innovative module that uses GIS (Geographic Information Systems) technology to provide a detailed georeferenced view of logistics infrastructure and services. AT.L.A.S. allows to analyse geographical data on railway lines, facilities, freight terminals, ports and logistics platforms, supporting the decision-making process with concrete and up-to-date information.
- New Transport Configurator: an interactive module that allows users to design door-to-door traffic routes based on RFI’s catalogue of residual train paths.
- Reporting & Analisys: entirely dedicated to the analysis of freight traffic flows and volumes, it allows the creation of customised reports to meet the specific needs of stakeholders.
- Accounting Module: allows for the simple and transparent management of requests and reporting of contributions related to toll discounts, thus ensuring more direct and immediate access to available incentives.
The article published in “La Tecnica Professionale” magazine highlights how EasyRailFreight represents an important step forward towards increasingly sustainable and integrated logistics promoted by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana. With its ability to simplify access to rail services and promote the use of existing infrastructure, EasyRailFreight is a fundamental tool for the growth of intermodal freight traffic and the ecological transition of the sector.
