“What If Freight Took the Train?”: EasyRailFreight takes stage

The conference “What If Freight Took the Train?” was held on Wednesday, 18 June 2025, organized by the Unione Industriali Torino to explore key issues related to sustainable mobility and intermodal freight logistics.

During the event, the following topics were presented:

  • The results of the regional transport and logistics survey in Piedmont;
  • Infrastructure and technology upgrades to the regional railway network;
  • The EasyRailFreight platform, developed by RFI to simplify business access to rail freight transport.

EasyRailFreight was the focus of a presentation by Francesco Lugli, Head of Strategic Marketing, and Alessio Galuppi, Head of Network Strategy, Services and Digitalization at RFI. They demonstrated how this digital solution offers a concrete opportunity to improve efficiency and sustainability in freight transport, directly supporting the challenge of decarbonization.

One striking fact emerged during the discussion: only one in four companies in Piedmont currently uses rail transport, despite its safety, sustainability, and readiness to meet market needs. Participants also addressed the cultural and operational barriers that still limit the spread of intermodality, and how tools like EasyRailFreight can help accelerate the transition to more modern logistics models.

The active participation of businesses, along with insights from institutions, experts, and sector operators, underscored how crucial it is—now more than ever—to foster dialogue between the industrial and rail sectors to build an integrated, accessible, and sustainable logistics system.
