Lombardy Region and Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI – FS Group) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at promoting and developing intermodal freight logistics in Lombardy through the use of RFI’s digital platform EasyRailFreight (ERF).

The ten-year agreement focuses on supporting modal shift and the digitalisation of logistics processes, facilitating the matching of supply and demand in the freight transport sector through the use of ERF’s various modules. In particular, the AT.L.A.S. (Logistics Atlas of Assets and Services) module will provide a georeferenced overview of logistics facilities and services located in Lombardy, improving access to integrated logistics solutions.
Under the agreement, RFI and Lombardy Region will also cooperate to:
- carry out joint analyses of freight flows and volumes and monitor rail freight data;
- share information on logistics infrastructure and facilities to support modal shift;
- collect and monitor quantitative data on rail freight transport in Lombardy;
- map regional logistics hubs and infrastructure;
- promote European cooperation projects in the field of intermodality.
The initiative is part of RFI’s Industrial Plan and Lombardy Region’s policies aimed at strengthening a more competitive and efficient freight transport system.
