Giulia Costagli, Head of Strategy at Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI), has stated that sustainable freight transport requires a focus on energy-saving collective modes of transport and the expansion of intermodal delivery services. During the meeting “Energy and Transport, a new generation transition”, she discussed how technological innovation and adequate infrastructure are essential to address the environmental challenges of the logistics sector.
The event, organised by Economy and hosted by Alis, examined the role of infrastructure in making transport more environmentally friendly. Costagli highlighted RFI’s ongoing investment in adapting railway lines to freight transport, with upgrades including new first and last mile facilities to ports and interports.

With a view to improvement, RFI is promoting the adoption of “mobility as a service” in the logistics sector as well. The company has launched the Easyrailfreight platform, which facilitates the connection between supply and demand in rail freight transport, maintaining a neutral position with respect to the various operators and promoting a more efficient use of available infrastructure.
