Applications are now open for the Sea Modal Shift incentive scheme promoted by the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT). The programme supports combined road–sea transport and covers the third implementation year (2025–2026). Subsidies apply to maritime services operated between 6 December 2025 and 5 December 2026.
The scheme, authorised under EU State aid rules, includes:
- eligible beneficiaries: road haulage companies, including temporary or permanent groupings, that ship vehicles and/or swap bodies (with or without drivers) on Ro-Ro and Ro-Pax vessels;
- eligible routes: those listed in Regulation No. 166/2023, plus additional routes proposed by applicants;
- subsidy: up to €0.30/km for each loaded vehicle unit, multiplied by the number of road kilometres avoided.
The call for applications and all relevant documentation are available on the MIT website and on the platform managed by RAM S.p.A. – Rete Autostrade Mediterranee.
