FAQ
What is EasyRailFreight?
EasyRailFreight (ERF) is a digital platform created by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) to simplify the connection between supply and demand for rail freight transport. It aims to improve logistics efficiency and sustainability while offering a comprehensive view of the services available on the freight transport market.
Who is EasyRailFreight for?
The platform is designed for the entire national and international industrial and logistics sector. It is primarily aimed at Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and all companies that need to arrange freight transport but currently lack visibility into available market services.
How does EasyRailFreight work?
EasyRailFreight consists of several modules that provide a unified and transparent view of available services through an internal search engine that matches supply and demand. The modules include:
- Service Showcase and Terminal and Service Registry, offering a complete and up-to-date overview of market solutions
- AT.L.A.S. (Logistics Atlas of Assets and Services), which uses GIS (Geographic Information Systems) technology to deliver a detailed, geo-referenced view of infrastructure and logistics services, further explained in the dedicated FAQ section.
Starting in 2026, additional modules will be available:
- New Transport Configurator, allowing users to conduct a preliminary feasibility analysis of door-to-door traffic using the residual train path catalog of RFI
- Analysis and Reporting Module, enabling the creation of customized reports to meet specific stakeholder needs
- Incentive Reporting Module, simplifying and clarifying the request and reporting process for track access charge discounts, ensuring more direct access to available incentives.
What types of transport services can be viewed on ERF?
You can browse intermodal transport services, either door-to-door or terminal-to-terminal. Once registered on the site, you can select the service that best fits your needs.
What are the benefits for businesses?
The platform facilitates access to the rail system, particularly by:
- Offering a broader range of service options
- Improving the logistics chain through an IT tool that supports and monitors all transport phases
- Increasing the reliability and flexibility of logistics services, making the system stronger and more efficient for the production sector.
What are the benefits for the production system?
Three main benefits:
- Enhanced efficiency and service quality through improved communication and transport service delivery
- Greater customer attraction and loyalty via easier access to existing services
- Increased competitiveness of the logistics system by improving the quality of information flows.
What are the benefits for the logistics system as a whole?
EasyRailFreight improves the use of infrastructure and terminal offerings, optimizing resource use and supporting increased intermodal traffic volumes. This brings system-wide benefits in terms of decarbonization, sustainability, and competitiveness.

What is the AT.L.A.S. module?
AT.L.A.S. (Logistics Atlas of Assets and Services) allows users to view and analyze geographical data related to rail lines, RFI facilities, freight villages, ports, industrial sidings, and logistics platforms. It supports advanced service planning and optimization. A short informational video is available here.
What kind of data can I consult with AT.L.A.S.?
You can view detailed, up-to-date data on logistics infrastructure and networks—key information for making operational decisions and improving planning. Features include visualizing freight volumes at ports, mapping businesses across Italy, displaying Simplified Logistics Zones (ZLS) and Special Economic Zones (ZES), and accessing Local Labor Systems (SLL) based on ISTAT cartography.
Does EasyRailFreight also show international freight transport services?
Yes, the platform currently includes international services that cross the TEN-T corridors. For example, the Scandinavian–Mediterranean Corridor (ScanMed), one of Europe’s major freight transport routes. More info: Scandinavian–Mediterranean Corridor.
