Rete Ferroviaria Italiana launches EasyRailFreight, the innovative digital platform for the development of intermodal logistics, designed to bring together supply and demand, facilitate the acquisition of integrated services and offer a complete overview of services on the freight transport market.
The application was designed and developed entirely by RFI, the lead company of the FS Group’s Infrastructure Division, with the aim of contributing to the decarbonisation of transport through the digitalisation of logistics processes, in line with the strategic guidelines defined by the European Union, which is committed to promoting the transition to a safe, environmentally neutral, climate-resilient, more efficient and circular economy.
The system operates on the list of services provided by market operators. The interface allows the available solutions to be offered for specific freight transport relationships, involving a growing number of small and medium-sized enterprises. It will be possible to view the type of service by having a complete overview of the shipping process, whether terminal to terminal or door to door. The database is based on information provided by the stakeholders involved, such as freight railway companies, terminal operators, multimodal transport operators, administrative services companies and road hauliers.
The EasyRailFreight platform was presented today by the President of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, Dario Lo Bosco, and the CEO and General Manager of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, Gianpiero Strisciuglio, to an audience of stakeholders, including industry experts and logistics representatives, featuring the Director of Environment, Energy and Mobility Policies at Confindustria, Marco Ravazzolo, Emanuele Arcese, President of the Intermodal Transport Section of ANITA, Alessandro Peron, Secretary General of FIAP, Giulia Costagli, Head of Technology Governance & Energy, Fuel, Material, Transportation Solutions at FS Italiane, and Francesco Lugli, Head of Multimodal Logistics Planning and Development at RFI.

‘EasyRailFreight aims to be a tool to support logistics and rail freight transport through a digital infrastructure that replicates the physical infrastructure,’ said Gianpiero Strisciuglio, CEO and General Manager of RFI. ‘Thanks to the contribution of railway and road transport companies, terminal operators and all operators in the freight sector, we will implement the current digital system to enable the exchange of information, the booking of services and predictive interventions. To this end, RFI is engaged in a major infrastructure renewal process, with an unprecedented investment plan.’
The application will promote the available intermodal transport services with greater efficiency and quality; increase traffic volumes with positive effects in terms of competitiveness; and offer greater reliability and flexibility in the provision of logistics services, to the benefit of the entire production system. Simplified access to existing services and improved quality of information flows will therefore improve the efficiency of intermodal transport, from an infrastructure and terminal point of view, and encourage potential growth in traffic volumes.

The project was developed thanks to communication, listening and the sharing of objectives between RFI and all the stakeholders involved. In a context where the demand for logistics services is mainly characterised by greater variability in volumes and an increase in departure and destination locations, the speed of execution of operational processes becomes a determining factor in the value chain.
With EasyRailFreight, RFI confirms its role as a facilitator, aggregator and modal integrator, placing itself at the centre of the Italian logistics chain and demonstrating its commitment to actively contributing to the country’s transition and the achievement of social, environmental and economic sustainability objectives.
